For some time now the
significance of the mind–body relationship has been widely accepted
as is the case in the world of conventional medicine too. The
holistic approach views the human body as a single entity with the
relationship between its different parts determining balance and
function. The emotional state of a person clearly affects his
physical state, and, therefore, a balanced emotional state
contributes to functioning of the body the balance and improves
functioning of the body.
The fact that a body is beset by an illness indicates that there is
an imbalance and the purpose of our project is to reestablish
equilibrium through group and personal support. Indeed, the balance
contributes to a better functioning of all of the body organs in
general and of the immune system in particular.
The basis for this
theory was formulated by Prof. Zichek, a cancer researcher who lives
and works in Germany. The professor found that 20% of the mice on
which he performed tests recovered without any treatment. He decided
to research this phenomenon. In 2003 he checked a group of 3000
women in the United States who were diagnosed with breast cancer in
1983, and found that 20% of them were living good healthy lives 20
years later. From discussions with this group of women, Prof. Zichek
found that they had all undergone one or another kind of alternative
medical treatment over the years, a process which in his view helped
the body overcome the cancer. He defined those women with the term
“cancer yogies”. Over the last two years, Prof. Zichek has been
doing research with cancer “recoverees” in Israel who have undergone
alternative treatments in search of a scientific explanation for
this phenomenon.
The intimate support
circle
When a
person finds that cancer has knocked on their door, their whole
world is turned upside down and everything that was important and
urgent up to that moment is now subject to review. Priorities change
at once, a process of adaptation begins and a rethinking of how one
was accustomed to live. Every person reacts differently, but there
is one feature common to all and that is the intimate circle of
family and friends. Those who have the cancer become the central
focus of this intimate circle that does everything it can to ease
the situation. A process of searching for relevant medical
information begins, second and third opinions are sought, the
doctors become the center of life and gradually one develops a
dependency. The medical process commences and everyone is gathered
around the patient to support and give unstintingly. Sometimes the
partner or other close care
providers suddenly forced into this situation are
unintentionally forgotten .
Cancer
is a difficult and painful illness that requires long term
treatments
and thus exacting a high price from everyone around .
We offer the option of being part of a group which will work
together - patients, family and friends – seeking to achieve
the desired balance. The crystallization of such a support group
that makes a real contribution to the participants’ reslience and
quality life stands at the heart of what we are all
